Why do people in the church still have guilty consciences? Why are they still sin conscious?
They are trying to atone for their own sin.
“But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.”
(10:3 Hebrews)
They are not allowing themselves to be cleansed. It is a rejection of Me.
Self-righteousness is the rejection of Jesus. (Hebrews 10:29)
It is a foul stench. (Isaiah 65:5)
I’m giving you examples of self righteousness:
I’m OK, because I go to church.
I give to the poor, so I feel better.
I’m a good person.
I make sure everyone sees me doing these things.
Trauma keeps people bound in the sin of self-righteousness.
It is the expectation of judgment, and the result is fear. (Hebrews 10:26–27)
They are rejecting my perfect love, and the result is fear. (1 John 4:18)
It is not their fault. Deep hurts and wounds from childhood have altered their perception, blinding them from the truth. Trauma and emotional pain has the potential to harden hearts and cause eternal separation. (Psalm 95:8)
But I came to heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3)
I am a softener of hearts. The hardest of hearts is no match for me. My love can penetrate the hardest of hearts. My love awakens, it resurrects all the dead places in the soul. I breathe life, the breath of God, into every wounded heart and every tortured soul.
Confess the sin of self-righteousness so that you can be healed. (James 5:16)
Do not delay.
Receive Me.
Your righteousness is a filthy rag (Isaiah 64:6), but I clothe you in a garment of praise. (Isaiah 61:3) I give you royal robes, an imperishable inheritance. You are my son. You are my daughter in whom I am well pleased.
Receive Me.
Scriptural references:
“How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?”
NIV 10:29 Hebrews
“They tell others, ‘Stay away! Don’t come near; I’m too holy for you to touch.’ These people are like a stench in my nostrils, a smoldering fire that doesn’t go out!”
Isaiah 65:5 TPT
“For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.”
NKJV 27-10:26 Hebrews
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
NKJV 4:18 I John
““Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness,”
NKJV 95:8 Psalms
“He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.”
NKJV 147:3 Psalms
“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
NKJV 5:16 James
“But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.”
NKJV 64:6 Isaiah
“To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.””
NKJV 61:3 Isaiah

This is a beautiful word. When I meditate on Isaiah 53, and Psalm 22 about what Jesus went through on the cross in His body, His soul, and separation from the presence of His Father, sobers me up quickly of any deception and self-righteousness I may think I have.
It can be so easy to slip into this mode of attemptyin to "earn" salvation...God's grace is sufficient for you!
